About Nora

I am a 23-year-old from a small town in Iowa, USA.  I graduated from St. Olaf College in 2011 with a BA in Biology and Middle East Studies, and  I spent the following year as an AmeriCorps volunteer with a refugee resettlement agency in Minneapolis.  My work with refugees, together with my undergraduate travels in the West Bank and other Arab countries, has made me very interested in how  entrenched conflicts might be peacefully resolved. In an effort to deepen my understanding, and also to confront my personal biases about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, I have enrolled in an MA program in Peace and Conflict Management Studies at the University of Haifa in Haifa, Israel.  I will be using this page to keep family and friends updated on my experiences and to have a record of how my understanding of conflict evolves over the coming year.  Thanks for reading!

  1. Nora,

Good blog site ! Now, I know where to find information regarding what’s happening on the ground in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Good luck with your Peace and Conflict Management Studies. The I – P conflict has been going on for a long time, and can use some new thinking. I doubt the conflict can be resolved, ever, but perhaps it can be managed better than in the past.

  3. my problems in romania and abroad

Dear Nora, looks like you have a lot to do, in your youth and you’ll also well supported, like I’ve never been within this Balkan Romania where I live since more than thirty-three years ago. I like your courage(and your face in the photo too) and the reason for I write dwn to you now, is that it is only you, the very few bright active researches like you are, to have the force left, to transform this world too. But it is only a few persons like you may be and I only hope your biology and psychic is quite similar to mine..so please trust me I don’t know what I can do more, now in my adult and discriminated age…Regards!

  4. I found your blog through “Freshly Pressed.” It is amazing to read your perspective from “on the ground,” so to speak. I will follow your blog so I can get a closer look at what is really happening over there. I am writing from Kingston on the tropical island of Jamaica…

  5. I live in Haifa and study at the Haifa U. If you would like to talk, you can leave me a message at my blog on WP.

I was in Israel / Palestine myself earlier this year, studying the conflict there. Your blog is wonderfully written and insightful, and reflects much of what I saw and experienced myself. (Though I never had to take shelter from a rocket attack!) I pray that your voice continues to be a strong one: bearing witness to the truth, and bringing light, hope and the opportunity for healing into those places of the world where pain and oppression have destroyed the dreams and warped the spirits of all involved.

    Stay safe!

  7. You are indeed a very talented and wonderful person. I admire your zeal and humanitarian values.
